Birmingham hip resurfacing prosthesis
Hip resurfacing is an alternative to hip replacement in a few very selected individuals. These individuals are young, physically very active and like to remain so after their operation.
In this operation the top of the thigh bone or femur is not sacrificed as in a total hip replacement. The bone is shaped to receive a metal cap. The socket is deepened and shaped to receive a metallic cup.
