Do you have a broken hip socket that needs fixing?
Incidence of acetabular fractures
Most acetabular fractures occur in car or four wheeler accidents at high speed. The impact of the dashboard against the bent knee impacts the upper end of the femur into the socket and leads to fracture.
Pelvic fractures, Hip dislocation, knee injuries, fracture of head of femur are associated injuries.
Early treatment of shock and assoicated life threatening injuries takes precedence. Displaced fractures will need open reduction and internal fixation.
I treat neglected socket fractures with Resurfacing of hip, hip replacement and Short Stem hip replacement
When the surgeon succeds in obtaining a good position of the fracture during surgery, the result is good. Post traumatic ossification, post traumatic arthritis, non union are complications.
Hip resurfacing surgery is the best treatment for this condition. After surgery, normal function is restored.
I have treated many acetabular fractures by internal fixation. Most injuries occured in high speed motor vehicle accidents in young men.
